Jerk Chicken Wings: My First Original Recipe
These baked chicken wings have a spicy kick balanced with a lemony tang and that delicious, crispy skin that makes chicken wings so delicious.
Inspiration for My Jerk Chicken Wings Recipe
When I was in university, there were these President’s Choice jerk chicken wings in the frozen food section of the grocery store that were so delicious, I was obsessed. I picked up a box almost every time i went to the grocery store just to have them on-hand in the freezer. But then they started getting harder and harder to find until one day I asked the customer service desk at the grocery store and they had to break the news to me that they were a discontinued product.
It was crushing. I went through all the stages of grief until I arrived at acceptance and I realized there was only one thing to do. I had to figure out how to make my own jerk chicken wings. This was the start of my interest in creating recipes and I am not exaggerating when I say that my jerk chicken wings are even better than the ones that inspired them.
I use Grace Foods jerk paste, which comes in Mild and Hot (I use the Hot). I have tried several brands and this is the best one. Or you can use my homemade jerk paste recipe which is included in my Fully Loaded Cheeseburgers post.
Jerk Chicken Wings: Recipe Tips and Variations
I like to add a few other things to the baking sheet and make a full meal of it. Brussel sprouts are a good choice, as they become crispy and spicy and really good. I also like adding radishes to my baking sheet. Have you ever had roasted radishes before? They don’t taste anything like radishes once they are roasted- they taste more like potatoes, which is why they work great with these delicious jerk chicken wings.
Other ideas for things you could add to your baking sheet to turn this recipe into a full meal (just cut them into two-bite chunks first):
- sweet potatoes
- potatoes (or just use baby potatoes)
- carrots
- turnips
- cauliflower
- broccoli
- beets
- zucchini
- red peppers
- butternut squash
Some of these veggies won’t take as long as the wings, so add them towards the end of the cooking time so you don’t overcook them.
