Your New Go-To Breakfast: Chia & Flax Seed Bagels
These flourless bagels are my new grab and go weekday breakfast option. I am a sweet breakfast kind of girl. I like my pancakes, muffins, scones and french toast. Flourless versions of course. But some days I like a savoury breakfast and a quick and easy choice is a couple of these flourless bagels with cream cheese. The coconut flour makes them pretty filling and the chia seeds and flax seeds make them super healthy. Win win!
The Latest & Greatest Superfood: Chia Seeds
Chia seeds are considered a superfood because they are rich in nutrients. I am not sure what it takes to be considered a superfood or who decides if you make the cut, but nonetheless I am a fan of chia seeds. They have lots of fiber, omega 3 fats, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. And they make you feel full for a long time so what’s not to like?
The Original Superfood: Flax Seeds
I read somewhere that flax seeds were the first cultivated superfood. Interesting. These little seeds are also very good for you, with lots of fiber, omega 3 fats, vitamins and alpha-linolenic acid, which helps promote digestion. Sounds pretty good!
Flourless Bagels: Recipe Tips and Variations
Instead of sprinkling chia seeds on top, try sesame seeds or poppy seeds. They also make an “everything bagel” spice blend that is pretty good. You can sprinkle that on top of these for a nice, oniony taste. Or you could try adding a bit of shredded cheddar cheese on top or in the batter. Or what about chopped jalapenos or bacon bits?!! Drool.
For a sweet bagel, try adding a bit of sweetener or maple syrup to the batter and add some chopped or shredded apples with a bit of cinnamon, or chocolate chips or blueberries or raisins.
